19th March 2011
Just another few days and Spring will technically be here and in the UK we put the clocks forward – I love the lighter evenings and even though the garden does start to call I seem to do more sewing somehow.
So if you do too, hopefully the rest of the month’s videos will help and inspire you; Maggie continues with her excellent Hawaiian Applique workshop and guides you through the cutting and placing of the fabric- so many hints and tips its amazing; if you’ve not got round to watching Dawn’s lecture on needles and threads I really can’t recommend it highly enough (and you can put her in your pocket with her new Pocket Tutor which will be on sale later in the year); Jennie has taken the log cabin design and twiddled with the corners – again an easy twist that creates a whole new dimension to the design (have you tried making her free motion flowers where she sews on air yet?); and then if you just want to sit back and be inspired you can enjoy a taster of the DVD produced by Angie Hughes ‘Inspired Velvet’ and also wander round the brilliant exhibition A Slice of Quilt Art with Janet Twinn – members of this mixed media textile group celebrating 25 years of their association with new pieces for you to enjoy.

The Small ads section of the site is hotting up; there is a new Quilt retreat being offered by Kate at Come2Quilt in Somerset which you might like to consider; Villavin Crafts remind us that they will be at the Grosvenor Show at Exeter later this month and Creative Quilting have loaded up images of their Fat ¼ Club fabrics and the Fabric Sample Club – both of which you can join by following the link. http://www.justhands-on.tv/small-ads/category/5/
Talking of joining, how about checking your diary to see whether you can join us at Dunford House at the end of June 24-26th for a sewing weekend; we still have a few spaces; Sarah is working with a new jelly roll design; Jennie is working on 3D and I have a design that can use up your 2” or 2 ½” strips to create a 9patch and rail quilt; we can also offer you the option of sewing and completing your UFO’s with expert advice on hand (Wendy will be there to help with machines); for more information just download a booking form

There is a ‘help’ plea from one of our subscribers who has loved the idea of using the microtak gun but is in need of a basting grate – does anyone have one they no longer need? If you want to get in touch, please do so through the ‘Contact us’ button on the site and not as a reply to this newsletter .
We hope that the slight tweek the site will have made your lives easier – if you forget your password (or your username) you can just click on the forgotten link and the system will get back to you – saves waiting for Jennie or I !! All the information about upgrading your membership to enjoy the full workshops and videos is on the Membership page – it is a pay-as-you-go system managed through Paypal so really easy, but there is also the option of paying by cheque. And for new members there is also the FAQ page – frequently asked questions – which might help with any queries.
As a subscribed member you are entitled to take part in our prize give-aways and you still have a few days left to enter – draw date for these Fabric Freedom strip rolls is 1st April:

just send us an email entitled 'Fabric' to justhandsontvcomp@gmail.com.
These Daisy Delight fabrics are from their current fabric ranges and should be available through your local fabric shop or go to www.fabricfreedom.co.uk for more information.
So make a habit of joining us, perhaps with your coffee, and allow the patchwork and quilting world to join you. The videos are bite size so perfect for that short break.
I have to go now and play with my two new toys – a turntable rotary cutting mat and a ruler that sharpens as you cut – will report back next month.
Happy sewing
Valerie & Jennie
