Park Lane Blog RSS Feed Victoria & Albert Museum Quilt show

18th April 2010

Val:  My friend Valerie and I went along to see this and it was amazingly busy;   needlesstosay we bumped into numerous quilting friends/colleagues who also felt it was a show not to be missed.   The museum have gone to a lot of trouble to put this on and included a great new bit of technology in the form of the audio/blackberry which has a zoom in feature to enable you to see the stitching up close, which you can't really do in reality;   the lighting is dim throughout to protect the quilts but the workmanship and beauty can still be admired (even though many of the fabrics have faded to that antique coffee colour).   My personal take is that  I felt the the modern quilts were a little out of place and while I enjoyed the pieces from Sarah Impey and Pauline Burbridge, the others left me a little underwhelmed!

The shop is well stocked with quilting goodies and an excellent choice of books, and while we certainly bought something, neither Valerie nor I felt tempted to purchase any of the fabrics that have been specially printed to add to our stash!!  However, a good time was had by us both.

P.S. - don't rely on being able to eat at the two food options - they were overwhelmed!
