Who would have thought those three words would appear together in the same sentance?!

I first noticed the influence of quilts when Putin was giving a press conference to the BBC and a few others – the design was behind him on the wall and here is part of the explanation:

Sochi games’ press release: ”The Olympic patchwork quilt, developed by Bosco’s creative department and given to the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee, will be the official Look of Russia’s first Winter Games.

In the concept design, every patch was infused with the history and personality of traditional crafts from each of Russia’s 89 regions: in a single tapestry we combined Uftyuzhskaya painting and Vologda lace, Gzhel and Zhostovo painting, Kubachi patterns and the flowers of Pavlo Posad shawls, Mezenskaya painting and Khokhloma, Yakutsk patterns, fabrics of Ivanovo and other distinctive Russian patterns. That is how we arrived at a modern, distinctive and unmistakeably Russian Look of the Games.”

When viewers turn on the broadcast of the Sochi Olympics men’s snowboard slopestyle finals Saturday night, they might see someone knitting at the top of the course. That is Antti Koskinen, Team Finland’s coach, and at Saturday’s competition he was busily knitting cream-colored yarn with green needles. Others on the Finnish team will add to the scarf before handing it off to Finland’s Summer Olympic team going to Rio de Janeiro in 2016. (posted from facebook)
