The Sampler Quilt series
In this series, we plan to guide you through from start to finish making a Sampler Quilt. This consists of a series of block squares that build up your skill base from the first block to the final quilting and binding. It is created using the modern rotary cutting and machine piecing skills, but workshop notes will be given for hand piecing. No templates involved, though.
About the quilt
The sampler quilt on display has nine blocks, but more options are going to be given at each stage so that you can make more different blocks should you wish to make this a single quilt for which you will need 15 blocks or for those with some sewing/patchwork skills to offer more of a challenge.
Eight blocks are based on the essential 9-patch grid, with the center block being created out of four Log Cabin blocks.
Program 1 – Choosing the fabric
We start the series with help on choosing the fabrics – and we thank Makower for their donation from their lovely Botanical Range. As you will hear – challenging to know which NOT to include!
Coming next
After making the blocks, the series will continue with help on the sashing, cornerstones, borders, layering, quilting, and binding.
Many of the skills learned in this series apply to other quilts with lots of ideas already on the site, and again we will be showing you examples.
