Valerie and our Director Steve Barton, took a working visit to this year’s Festival of Quilts and Steve couldn’t help but steal some time to admire the amazing array of quilts and take some pictures to share with you.

This was Valerie’s personal favourite – ‘Metropolis’ by Lesley Brankin – a delightful and talented textile artist whose work we have featured on the site . It got Valerie’s viewers vote!

This is a truly amazing Pictorial quilt and won the Handi Quilter Best in Show award this year. Titled, ‘My Favourite Thing’ it’s by Katy Whitby Last.

We learnt recently that one of our lovely contributors, Pauline Ineson had passed away earlier this year, but she left an amazing legacy in that she had some workinprogress and her group finished it and this quilt, ‘Circle of life’ by Sew with Pauline, won Best Group quilt

This was a stunning watercolour quilt with cutwork in the centre; In the Tradtional section, this is called ‘Cameo Roses’ and is by Doreen Plumridge, who often uses the wrong side of the fabric as well as bleach to create the very pale effect.   She is part of Guildford Quilters and has featured in one of our out and about videos.

This 18th Century quilt – entitled ‘Patchwork quilt 1800-20’ was pieced with half-square triangles in 4 different sizes. The quilting is in a frame layout unrelated to the design on the front. There are small pieces of late 18th century fabrics in the centre. The larger triangles contain fabric almost entirely from 1810-20 including examples of lapis prints
