Workshop notes for Double Prairie Points

You need two rectangles of fabric;  they are both the same length but the 2nd piece of fabric that will act as the flash of colour needs to be wider;  the amount wider will be the amount you want showing x 2 – so if you want ½” you will need to add 1”

Sew fabrics together along the long edge

Fold and press

And then refold into the pointy shape

Tack along the bottom edge to hold all the fabrics in place.

You could practice with a pieces of scrap fabric or paper!

Once you have folded the prairie point you can add it into the seam at whatever depth you want – so as much or as little of the point showing:

NOTE: you can then trim off any excess

Make sure that the seam is pressed the correct way to  keep the point lying flat or the way you want it to be in the quilt.

Add Interest and Texture

Prairie points are often used around the edge of project to give interest and also on inside seams to again add interest and texture.   Jennie Rayment uses them a lot in her twiddling and fiddling but here Valerie shows you how easy it is to add an additional flash of colour, rather than using a single piece of fabric.
