Courthouse Steps boys quilt:

used 2 x 10 strip jelly rolls

Cut into 4 ½” segments

You can get 9 from each strip 42” wide fabric

Quilt set 3 x 4 = 12 blocks

8 pieces  per block = 96 pieces

Need 11 strips (saved 4 plain ones for the first borders)

Make blocks and press;   set out so that you pay attention of the seams.

Used 4 plain fabrics for the first border – these could be trimmed down to whatever width you like.

Add 2nd border cut anything up to 6” will work

Courthouse Steps- pink tulip quilt hanging in the background

Set 3x5 = 15 blocks

Again 8 pieces per block

Used feature fabric for the border

Quilting:  - quick, simple wavy machine quilting for the quilt (we have a video on this)

And large utility quilting by hand in the borders (and Carolyn Forster shows us how this is done).

Jelly Roll or Scrap

Valerie shows you how easy it is to make this quilt - even if you are a beginner;  all the pieces are the same size!

Use left-overs (colour co-ordinated maybe); trim up those 5" charm squares or have the joy of unrolling that new jelly-roll.

Rotary Cutting Tip

Valerie also has a tip to share with you about the use of the rotary cutter to it's best potential - it is designed to cut down through multi-layers accurately so why not do just that!
