Workshop notes

Each of the blocks for this quilt are made up of both scraps of red/pink and of the white background/sashing strips.   You could of course be consistant with the background (white) fabric.

You will need a number of pieces red/pink cut 2 ½” x 4 ½” – 4 per block

If you are making a scrap quilt then the more the merrier – cut them and put into a pile or plastic bag so that you can pick at random.

Sew two pieces together along the short ends – giving you a piece approx 2 ½” x 8 ½”

Again make lots

Once you have a selection you can take two and sew them together along the long edges, matching the middle seam.

Press

Add a strip of white fabric 2 ½” wide to either side

Press

Measure the width and then trim each unit into a square .

The example was made with 30 blocks (finished size 8") – 5 across x 6 down – and no border.

You could of course make it bigger with more blocks and with a border

Then layer, quilt and bind!

If you want to know how there is a video as the last part of the Your First Sampler Quilt Series.

Great use of small scraps

Small pieces from your stash/scrap bags are all you need to get you going on this;  you wouldn't even need to sort them into a colour theme - anything would work.

Great for beginners

Simple rotary cutting and sewing and great for beginners too as seam allowance isn't an issue.

Jelly roll option

This quilt uses pieces that are 2 ½” wide, so using a jelly roll could also be an option.

Extra quick and easy quilt

In the video Valerie works with leftovers from her 40 minute quilt - if you haven't seen that yet click here
